Getting Started with Coat Check

 

Who is this help guide for?

This help guide is intended for coat check attendants who are new to using Chexology.

For help with customer related issues that may pop up during your shift, please check out the Common Coat Check Situations help guide.

 

 

Before you begin

The Chexology app should already be installed, running, and logged in on the tablet. If this is not the case, please see the setup guide or if you are having issues, please view the troubleshooting guide.

Before each shift, review the coatcheck pre-shift checklist to make sure that:

  • All devices and readers are plugged in and receiving power
  • Wi-Fi or mobile service is working
  • Bluetooth reader is paired/connected

Coat Check Basics

Positioning the kiosk

Proper placement of the Chexology kiosk will allow you to check items quickly and efficiently.

  1. Place the kiosk to your right.
  2. Rotate the kiosk between 30° and 45° so you can see the screen.
  3. Point the iPad's front camera where your customers will be standing to get a clear photo of them.
  4. The rear camera should point where you will hold coats and other items to take pictures of them.
  5. Pro tip: Use the Home Screen’s transparent view of the back camera to better frame item pictures.

Checking coats and other items

Checking a coat with Chexology is designed to be a fast and smooth process. Try these steps out slowly, at first. Then, with practice, you should be able to race the customer and get their coat checked before they are finished entering their phone number!

1. Tap the Tag

  1. Greet the customer as they approach and say, “Hi! May I take your coat?”
  2. Grab a hanger with your left hand.
  3. Take the customer's coat with your right hand.
  4. Tap the tag on the reader while holding the coat in view of the rear camera.
    • The Chexology app will take a photo of the coat at the same time that you tap the tag.

 

 
 

2. Hang the coat

  1. Ask the customer to enter their phone number on the tablet screen.
    • Tell them, “Your phone number is your ticket.”
  2. Put the coat on the hanger and hang it in it's designated place on the rack.
 
 

3. Swipe the screen

  1. After the customer enters their phone number, swipe the screen to finish the check-in and say,
    “Great! All set!”

  1. When you see the Thank You screen, all items have been checked. A confirmation text message will be sent to the customer (if enabled at your venue).
 
 

Please note: If a customer has more than one item they want to check in, you can continue tagging items with photos while they are entering their phone number.


Returning coats and other items

1. Flip the tablet

Before you begin returning items, flip the tablet to face you, not the customers.

 
 

2. Search for the customer

  1. Search for the customer using the last few digits of their phone number or their PIN.
    • Say, “Welcome back! What are the last few digits of your phone number?”
  2. Verify the picture of the customer, and retrieve their belongings.

 
 

3. Swipe to return their items

As you return the coat or items, swipe right to mark the exchange as completed. This will keep your inventory up to date and allow you to reuse the tag.
